Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Taping

It is possible you have never heard of Kinesio Tape or you may have thought the technique was a relatively new breakthrough for the treatment of sports injuries.  However, Kinesio Tape and the Kinesio Taping technique were invented and developed in the mid 1970's.  Kenzo Kase, a Japanese Chiropractor designed this special tape that has a texture and elasticity similar to that of our body's own soft tissues.  Kinesio Tape is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints. The elasticity of the tape allows for stabilization without restricting the body's range of motion. It is used  treat a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and medical conditions.

Kinesio Tape is used to

  • Re-education of neuromuscular system
  • Reduce pain
  • Enhance performance
  • Prevent injury
  • Promote improved circulation and healing

At Apple Valley Chiropractic & Rehab we use Kinesio Tape for many injuries including:

  • Ankle sprains
  • Runner's Knee
  • Plantar Fascitis
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Rotator Cuff
  • Bicep Tendonitis
  • Achilles Tendonitis

In addition to these common injuries the tape can be used relax a tight muscle, facilitate a weak muscle and help reduce inflammation by improving circulation at the injury.  Kinesio Tape is made with a strong water-proof adhesive that allows it to be worn for several days.  It is also latex free which makes it less likely to cause a skin reaction.

Kinesio Tape is commonly seen on many of today's athletes at the highest levels of competition including the NFL, NBA, MLB, AVP and many Olympic teams.
